Essential Equipment For Window Cleaning

If you have the money and want to buy the equipment for cleaning two story houses you’ll need all the typical window cleaning equipment as well as a vehicle. Most people assume you need a truck, but a car or van will work as well. Your vehicle is going to need a rack of some sort to place your ladders on, if you have a car you can use a bike rack like I do for my San Diego Window Cleaning Business.

Speaking of ladders, you are going to need a 24’ and a 16’ aluminum extension ladder as well as a three tier collapsible step stool. You could get a 28’ ladder but they are about 20 pounds heavier and will hang off the back end of your vehicle more. The up side to a 28’ ladder is that you can clean most three story homes. Anything over 28’ is too much and is very risky for one person to be operating, not to mention its going to wear you out moving that around all day.

As I quickly found out with starting my San Diego Window Cleaning Business, your ladder is also going to need ladder mitts and more expensively but very necessary, ladder levelers. You need ladder levelers to make sure your ladder is straight up and down on uneven ground. You use these to adjust the way your ladder stands. They also make it so you can place your ladder on stairs. Without these you wont be able to get to every window and will be risking your life and those around you. Look under the ladder section later in future articles for more information on ladder levelers.

With a rack and ladders you have everything you need to clean two story houses. Although I would recommend one other item that will help save your strength throughout the day which is a bucket cart by Sorbo. I like the Lief cart that holds my square 6 gallon bucket. Instead of lugging water all over the place I can wheel it with ease.

Lets talk about price for all this stuff. A ladder rack or bike rack is going to be around $400 brand new. A 24’ aluminum extension ladder is around $200 and the 16’ aluminum extension ladder comes in at around $130. The ladder levelers are around $80 a pair and you will need two pair. And the bucket cart is about $150, when I first bought it I thought I might be wasting my money but after using it the first day I knew I made the right decision. So we are looking at an additional $1040 plus or minus, however keep in mind that you are going to make back this investment within two weeks of hitting the streets if not within the first week.
